Tips for preparing a home for summer in Arizona.

 

Closing down a house in the desert preparing for 120 deg temperatures and sand storms is a little different than winterizing a Motor Home. To save money and prevent possible trouble from leaking pipes and power surges in storms in the monsoon season in Mesa we have the power and water turned off after we leave. The power saves us  $17/mo but the water and sewer, even if we do not use a drop of water the charge is $57/month. They turn off the water for free and charge $30 to turn it back on. Not hard to figure 5 or 6 months of shutdown is a good savings. For those that don’t know the drill, Clean the batteries in the golf cart, fill all cells with water and charge to max, then disconnect the wires so that one wire is off every battery terminal, drain the toilets, remove the ball cock, and with the toilets dry pour in Rv antifreeze into the bowl and trap. Sewer bugs crawl the sewers and crawl up in the drains and will not crawl thru propylene glycol.  You seal every drain, and saran wrap the toilets just in case the bugs come thru the traps and to prevent evaporation. Then put  5 gallon pails of water in most rooms and a couple 40 gallon trash buckets lined with a plastic bag and fill with water and leave in the house for moisture. Trash cans got 25 gallons of water each. Last fall there was about 2” of water in both of the large trash barrels and the 5 gallon pails were empty. Oh we put a couple tablespoons of Clorox in each bucket to prevent bacteria from growing. There is the usual vacuuming and washing rugs to discourage cockroaches and other nasty bugs. We spray the outside of the house with insecticide that is supposed to last for 12 months and spray any weeds trying to come thru the stones that make it thru the  heavy black plastic under the stones.

I do house checks while you are away.
Check exterior once a week, check out side watering systerms, unless there is a storm I will check the house after the storm. Check interior every other week make sure traps are full. On call from security if there is some thing that need immediate attention. Golf cart charging & water adding.

We have a very interesting Republican Club meeting planned for you this Monday evening, 7:00 PM, in the Theatre. Meeting in the Theatre allows us to take advantage of the electronics and internet access that is available there.

We will open our program with a short video teaser by Dinesh D'Souza, the filmmaker of last years blockbuster documentary "2016 Obama's America". He is creating along with well known Hollywood producers a film promoting the greatness of a free enterprise America. This film will be released in the summer of 2014. In addition, we will follow with a 9+ minute video of his stirring presentation at the recent CPAC conference in Washington, DC.

Our guest speaker is Wendy Rogers, a 2014 candidate for the US Congress. Mrs Rogers has a most impressive resume' that includes successful businesswoman, multiple college degrees, home schooling of children, and having been a pilot in today's US Air Force.

Following that will be several short presentations on political topics but most importantly a discussion on "Does the GOP need an overhaul, and if so, does the RNC determine what is going to change?"

Come join us and have an impact on our discussions!
