Minutes of 3/11/10 Model Railroaders of Leisure World - Hobo Junction

Meeting called to order by Verle Howell at 3 PM.

Minutes of last meeting were approved as posted.

Treasurer's report: Starting Balance $350, Expenses (3 switches) $228.11,
Ending Balance $121.89.  We also have a new member joining today, Alf Goodall.

Leonard Gordy of New Jersey was a guest at our meeting.

Mrs. Yeager of Roadrunner RV Resort, A.J., donated 120 feet of G-scale
track, 3 locomotives, 3 switches, buildings, etc., to our club.

Eleven members visited Valle Del Oro's garden railroad and 5 went out to
lunch after.

A Sunland Village man visited Verle's on the regular Thursday work day on
his patio and invited Verle to see the three trains he runs in his garage.

Ed and Burene took Verle to the Children's Hospital to see the G-scale
railroad and the new layout in progress in the new Children's Hospital that is
being set up with a Sedona look.

Evan bought a train and subway to build at his house.  Be at Evan's, #1001,
March 12 at 10 AM to help set up the table.

Carol and Dean Johnson had Verle over to see their G-scale Christmas train,
O-gauge, H-Gauge, and HO-gauge.  They gave Verle a card for a fellow with
model trains in Scottsdale.

Al showed us the dragon car his wife made to show us that model railroading
can be whimsical.

Verle showed us a sheet of foam that can be bought for one dollar that can
be used to make buildings.

Sybil told members about the miniature show at ASU West on Thunderbird Road
on Sunday, March 14 from 10 AM to 4 PM.  One can see how small things are
built.

Upcoming projects: 1) A running Easter train at the Easter Egg Hunt at Rec.
1 on April 3.  Set up at 8 AM and run until 3 PM.  Bring soft, cuddly
things to add to display.  2) Saturday, March 20, a running train display for
Welcome to our World (WOW).  3) Saturday, March 13, we have a table in the
class room/dance studio to show and sell raffle tickets for the Pennsylvania
2-8-0 Steam Passenger train set.  All members were encouraged to get tickets
from Ron to sell on their own.

Verle met with Gary Brown about the patio area at Rec. 1.  The project has
been turned over to Damien.  Things to be checked out are: Is there enough
electrical power at the building?  Enough water pressure for additional
sprinkler system?  Is the patio three feet too close to the lake?  Is the lower
elevation of the patio an issue?  If all these things are OK, cost is
estimated at $70,000 to 80,000.  It would be built to look like a depot.

Our April 8 meeting will be on Howells' patio.  Come at 3 PM with finger
food to share.

Evan reminded us April 17 at Falcon Field, there will be model railroads.
Al will get information to Verle so it can be emailed to members.

It was announced that Big Boy is in a Denver museum.

Phil Johnson showed part of the DVD "Building an O-Gauge Layout".

Meeting was adjourned at 5 PM.

Respectfully submitted by Fran Dusek, Secretary
